Hello! I am new to mobileread forum.
I want to jailbreak my KT2 running firmware 5.11.1.1
I find this thread from google, it seems that I can jailbreak using serial jailbreak.
I follow this tutorial
I do part 1-4 successfully.
I see the word **** JAILBREAK **** appear at the bottom of my KT2.
And this is the message from putty:
============================

============================

So I believe I jailbreak my KT2 successfully.
I try to install KUAL following the part 5 but fail.
I download the latest KUAL package KUAL-v2.7.20-gc2948b8-20190604.tar.xz from this download thread
I put the file KUAL-KDK-2.0.azw2 into the Documents directory of my KT2.
However, I cannot see the Kindle Launcher after restarted.
I know this message is quite long. But I really need help!
Can anybody help me? Thanks!

KT3 Help: Jailbreak KT3W (5.11.2)

:help:
Hello,

I have been using the Kindle Basic 2 (White) for a while. I jailbroke it and used it for some time.

One day, I accidently reset the device, which caused the jailbreak to vanish.

I installed the hotfix, and it started working fine.

After a long time, I again reset the kindle. Again, the jailbreak vanished.

But now, I can't seem to be able to jailbreak it again. Hotfix doesn't work.

I want to regain jailbreak access. Please help!

PW3 Accidentally Pulled Off Serial Pad

Hi all, very impressed with all the smart people here and want to thank everyone for their contributions!

I decided to attempt the serial jailbreak on my PW3, in the process of checking my solder joint I accidentally pulled off the Tx serial pad. Guess I pulled too hard :smack:

Is there a way to fix this or am I doomed to never complete the jailbreak?

original Paperwhite - no sync to Amazon after Jailbreak and downgrade of firmware

$

Dear forum

I have the original Paperwhite with which I wanted to use my own fonts. For this I downgraded the firmware to a version which still allowed this and also jailbroke it so I could install a hack that prevents automatic upgrade of the firmware.

This works well so far only the device doesn't sync with Amazon any longer. So it's basically a paperweight now.

As I don't remember exactly which things and versions I installed I wonder if I could quickly check common mistakes I might have made before I upgrade the firmware and repeat the whole process again. Contrary to what many people do I did not install a new shell. Just downgraded, jailbroke and installed said hack to keep it downgraded.

Thanks for any tips!

cheers

PW Jailbroken, how to get further

Used the kindle-jailbreak-1.1.4.N file to jailbreak and updated it to 5.6.1.1.

Now I am completely unsure what is next. I want to get ssh access going. Plan is to do something similar to this hack: https://mpetroff.net/2012/09/kindle-weather-display/

But instead of just weather, will display weekly guest password QR code as well.

I have a handle on the server side stuff, but no idea what is next to get there for my PW. Any help or direct guides for this model?

I successfully ran kpw4 image in docker.

Trying to Jailbreak KT4 brand new with firmware 5.11.0

Hi,

I have a brand new Kindle Basic 3 (2019) / KT4 with Serial: G0910L... that I just unpacked, and it’s running firmware 5.11.0 and I would like to jailbreak it.

I have moved the Merchant.zip into the root folder, and searched for ;merchant after unplugging the Kindle, but it does nothing. Why is it not working?
The Kindle is brand new, I haven’t registered it or connected it to the Wifi yet.

Thanks in advance

KOA Kindle Oasis 2016 Edition, Kual Question.

I tried researching, and couldn't find anything. Is there any firmware version for this kindle oasis, that can use the AZW2 version of Kual?

Is KT4 still shipped with FW 5.11.0?

I’m ready to pull a trigger on a Kindle ereader on Prime Day. But I cannot yet decide whether to go with PW4 or KT4.

The ability to jailbreak the device is quite a decisive decision factor for me. I know that PW4 is now shipped with FW higher than 5.10.1.3 (so no luck on the jailbreak).

I don’t have a clue about FW that KT4 is currently shipped with. Is it still 5.11.0?

If the current KT4 cannot be jailbroken, I might buy PW4. I get an impression that people here at mobileread community seem to work on hacking PW4 more than on NT4. So PW4 might have a higher chance to be jailbroken in the future.

I would appreciate if anyone can shed light on this.

Jailbreak Voyage 7th Gen

Why do I want to jailbreak?
A problem with the kindle compared to normal books, is that I forget book titles. Pretty ridiculous that I have to jailbreak for this, but I want the screensaver to show the book cover. Ideally I'd also show the title while reading, but not sure if this is possible.

My Device
Voyage 7th gen 5.11.2

I can't really find anything on jailbreaking this version of the Voyage, is it still possible?

Audiobooks on Oasis 2017

$

Hi folks,
for quite some time now I've been content with just reading my books and neglecting the technical side of things. However, I was recently tempted and in fact did acquire a Kindle Oasis 2017 with 32GB memory for a very modest price (Like New, 145USD before tax).
Now I am wondering what to do with all that memory as I couldn't possibly fill it up with books alone. However, I also have my audiobook purchases spread across multiple sources (I was allowed by Amazon to open a second account in Germany to be able to operate a Fire TV stick with Prime there, since this is where my German Prime runs, I also got a few audiobooks there from promotions). Is there a way to consolidate these on the device? Or alternatively, is there a way to run downloaded Audible books (and perhaps even ripped CDs) on the Kindle, perhaps by adjusting the file format?
If not, no problem, but being able to do so would really increase the value.

Thank you for your input!

PW3 My PW3 auto updated and it seems hotfix 1.15.N is not working on 5.11.2 anymore?

Hi,

I need my kindle jailbroken... again.

TLDR; Is hotfix 1.15.N not working in kindle 5.11.2? If it still works, how?

Full; I'm losing my mind today. Some days ago which I don't remember, I turned on wifi to sync a book from kindle email then forgot to turn it off. And long time ago I somehow accidentally deleted those 'prevent updating' things on the kindle hard drive. So now my kindle is at its 5.11.2 version (magically). I looked through my computer folders then copy the old (but glory) hotfix that I used every time to recover the jailbreak to kindle's root directory. Turned to my kindle it told me:

Code:

Update Error

An invalid update file has been loaded on your
device. Please go to
www.amazon.com/devicesupport to access the
Kindle Software Update page or to contact
Kindle Customer Service for assistance.

and the file was deleted.

That's all what I did to my kindle.

kindle 5.10.3 firmware downgrade possible?

$

My new Kindle Paperwhite is running on the 5.10.3 firmware.

I would like to jailbreak the device if possible and began to follow a guide which said downgrade would be needed. So to begin with I downloaded the 5.3.5 firmware and copied it into my device directory.

However, when I go to update from my Kindle, I get a message that this is an invalid file for update. And the device actually seems to delete the firmware itself!

It seems Amazon installed some control to prevent downgrading? Is there any way to get around it and successfully downgrade and complete a jailbreak?

Thanks for your help.

Kindle ebook causing constant reboots on latest ver. Paperwhite

$

Hi everyone, looking for an actual Kindle Developer who can go check why a particular ebook would cause constant reboots? Seems completely strange.

The story: My brand new Kindle Paperwhite, 32gb, constantly reboots when it tries to download the book "Deception: A Novel" by Amanda Quick. There are multiple people having the exact same problem, just check the 1-star reviews on the book itself in the Kindle Store.

As part of this process, I made sure I have the latest firmware (5.12.1) and I've both done a factory reset and deregistered the kindle itself multiple times.

Again, I'm not the only person this is happening to, so ...?

Also: Clue: this book does NOT cause a reboot on an ipad, and it does not cause a reboot on an older kindle, just the brand new Paperwhites.

Ideas? Anyone know a software engineer you could pass this along to?
Thanks!

K5 Backporting a newer version of the Kindle firmware/GUI from Paperwhite to Touch

Is it possible at all to take a rootfs from a Kindle Paperwhite (especially the original Paperwhite, since it is very similar to the Touch on the inside) and coax that into booting with a Kindle Touch kernel?
I specifically asked about transplanting the whole root partition, beacuse the UI part alone is apparently too complex to be moved.

PW4 Some notes on PW4 issues and resolution

Just got a new PW4 on Prime day: 8gb, SO, wifi, 5.10.1.3.

I wanted to avoid 5.12 so decided to JB and upgrade to 5.11.2. (My old PW4 is 5.10.3. JB and everything...)

Downloaded everything from the latest snapshots.
Skipped wifi config and registration, and proceeded with JB.

*** I did not put it in airplane mode ***

JB went fine. Upgraded to 5.11.2. Installed MRPI, KUAL, usbnet, gawk, librariansync, python, linkss and a bunch of other extensions. Basically, set up this PW4 identically to my old PW4.

Copied my dictionaries and a collection of books. So now the 2 PW4 are identical in content. The main diff is that the old PW4 had all packages from snapshots as of early March.

Generated collections from folders. Setup SS to cover mode. Rebooted. Did a quick check and noticed that the PW4 was sluggish on all touches and page turns. Also, the message that SS Cover mode did not process any covers yet. Left the PW4 on wall charger and went to dinner.

Came back a couple of hours later and see that nothing improved. Cover mode is still giving message. Page turns are slow. And indexing only processed less than 10 books per hour. No matter what books I opened (mobi, azw3, User Guide) could not get the cover mode to work, and still sluggish.

Deleted all books except 1 and User Guide. Let it index 1 book. No change.

Uninstalled Python and linkss from current snapshot and reinstalled Python and linkss from the March snapshot. No change: no cover mode and sluggish.

Knowing that occasionally Amazon updates impact device performance, I thought that maybe 5.10.1.3 to 5.11.2 update did something. So I ran the hotfix, reset the device, reinstalled and recopied everything. No change: no cover mode and sluggish, and very slow indexing.

At this point I knew that I need help from the guru, and decided to prepare a set of logs that NiLuJe will request: ran ;DM, collected MRPI log, ran SS in verbose mode. Before asking for help I started reading the logs. There were no problems with any packages. However, there was a barrage of errors in System log that it's trying to connect to network and failing everything (sync, store, metadata, authentication, blah-blah-blah). But I never even connected to wifi!

*** So I put the device into airplane mode! ***

Suddenly, there is no sluggishness, indexing is working as expected, cover mode is working!

So even if you never configure wifi and never connect to anything, airplane mode is absolutely necessary.
