PW Booting to CELESTE_WFO

I haven't used my kindle in ages i think it was jailbroken, i really cant remeber.
I plugged it in for the first time in a while and it booted to CELESTE_WFO = System Diags
Its a paperwhite 1, 7th generation i think

Has it gone and bricked itself in its sleep or am i just being dumb

Kindle Paperwhite battery

Recently my Kindle Paperwhite has started draining its battery while sleeping, so when I pick it up the following day it's lost about 30%. It was perfectly OK before. It has always been in Airplane mode.
I have looked in Amazon Kindle help but there's nothing there about this.
If this is not the right place, can someone please point me in the right direction?

Any hacks to start books on front cover?

Title sums it up. From what I've read, the Kindle always starts on whatever page the creator has defined as the "start". It seems I need to actually view the cover for it to work with the lock screen cover hack, and I'd prefer to be able to see the cover of the book I start without scrolling backwards every time anyway.
Is there a hack available at all that would make my Kindle ignore the listed start page and always start on the front cover? I wouldn't be averse to editing with Calibre either, though all my books are in .mobi and I'd rather not go through converting them through multiple formats every time to change it.

I'm using a Kindle Keyboard.

Hello,

First of all just wanted to say idk why but following instructions here seemed weird / it could also just be me. I had a new kindle PW3 ( I believe its 3 since its the latest one)

My Serial number starts with G090 KB

I setup my kindle, never connected to wifi or registered with amazon
I was originally on 5.8.11, I found the firmware for 5.7.4 and turned on airplane more and installed it. (Not sure what happened here since I also unplugged my usb before it copied completely; plugged it back in and click complete transfering). Then updated kindle using menu and yes the update button showed up even thought it was an older file.

Once I updated, It gave me "error 12" I believe and I had to force restart by holding the power button down.

I copied over the 5.7.4 file (entirely this time) and for some reason turned off airplane more (Still never connected to wifi or registered) and flashed the 5.7.4 file (just copied the file into the root folder, safely removed device) went into the kindle settings and clicked update.

This time it gave me an update successful message and when I checked the firmware it was 5.7.4

I basically followed the directions from https://www.ereader-palace.com/downg...n-2016-method/

apologies in advance for link if its not allowed, mod please remove link. The mediafire or whatever link is full of spam so be sure to get the firmware and GTFO.

Basically I felt like I kept googling how to downgrade and I couldn't come up with anything. I only hope this helps someone.

MobileRead is the first link that comes up and I really wanted to follow instructions here but I'm really stupid and it needs to be broken down step by step for me.

I have my device jailbroken right now but still don't understand how to install some of the stuff. Here are a few of my questions.

Edit: please explain to me, how to install or setup OTA blocker, I still haven't connected to wifi because of not understanding step 7. of another post where it mentioned how to stop it. It just said copy OTA blocker to root folder, no idea where to get this

1. How do you install stuff? MRinstaller or copy it to root folder and click update?
2. Whats the difference between the install files that state "install touch pw" and install "install_pw2_kt2_kv_pw3_koa_kt3_koa2.bin" my kindle is touch too? but I think its PW3 <- still confused here
3. Can you install more that 1 hack/plugin at a time? or do you have to install and then restart then do the next one?


Hint** apparently I thought in the MRinstaller Helper you can select the things you wanted to install / uninstall so I copied all 3 files the 2 different version and the uninstaller so some of the stuff installed other didn't depending on the order of how it was named (if uninstall was first the I got the install for that software; if not it installed it, followed by uninstall)

So only put in the install file if your selecting the "Helper"

NOTE: I'm not responsible for your device if you brick it by following any of the instructions, I hope this helps someone.

Kindle as information display

Hello,

I'm thinking about adding a kindle as a display to my self built smart home assistant. I think it would be a good fit because of the low power consumption and the epaper display. I just want to display some information like the weather or a calendar which does not need to update often. I am planning to do this by displaying a simple webpage on the kindle.

Is there a way to display a website in fullscreen mode without the device going to standby? If not, is it possible to do this after jailbreaking the kindle?
Which kindle would be best for that?

PW2 Browser Hacks

Thanks for all the amazing hacks guys. I can read and do all the things. There was a cool hack on the K3 which would not only allow the browser to download files other than mobi or azw, but to choose where they downloaded to (so, for example, I had epub files save to CoolReader's books folder, and game files for frotz save to the game folder). Is there something like that for newer Kindles?

K4 Stuck on "Please enter the serial number"

Hi everyone

My Kindle 4 button on/off has stopped working and I've activated the "ENABLE_DIAGS" mode trying to find some option to completely disable the screensaver and... I've done it all wrong :(

After entering on the diags mode, I click on the first option (I think it's something like "Device Settings") and by accident :smack:, I entered the first option "Set Serial Number", now my device is stucked there, on a screen that says: "Please enter the serial number:", none of the buttons produce a change.

I have tried from the computer to use the fastboot to reboot it, but I always get a message "waiting for device".

Any idea how I can get out of the serial number window (without using the on/off button, of course) and try to get back to KindleOS?

Flashed the Wrong image on the diag Partiton

Hello

I tryed to Debrick my Kindle Paperwhite, which had problems at starting and was stuck in a boot loop.

I did flashed the the diags and main Partiton with an image from an PW2,
at this point i did not verify which paperwhite model I have.

Currently it stops at loading the Kernel, which is because it is the wrong Kindle model

Corrupted jb kindle need help

Today in the morning I added a 417 mb PDF file to my kindle after that when I turned on the kindle everything was gone including kual,mrpi basically everything including books the only think remaining is a blank document folder and a system folder besides that kindle is full of hundred of really small files with unknown extension and weird names.
now I really don't know what happened maybe I corrupted everything inside somehow.
I added few PDFs into document folder just to check whether its working or not unfortunately it wasn't I was using koreader and it's gone now and the native one isn't working.screen just goes blank for a second and then sends me to back to main menu.
I want to know what can I do? I can't factory reset because my kindle is jailbroken and I don't want to loose jailbreak otherwise I would have done that.is it ok for me to delete everything inside kindle including system folder?is the jailbreak and hotfix gone do I need to install everything again

PS-my kindle is kt3 firmware version 5.8.7

Please use the first few characters of your devices serial number and this table:
MobileRead Wiki - Kindle Serial Numbers

Please do not depend on the Amazon (marketing) "generation" descriptions and/or release date.
They are not consistent with the actual model depending on the marketing region.

Amazon has posted a statement about the "generation" terminology being marketing region dependent:

K4 Prevent Wifi Popup

Hello,

I'm using my Kindle as an information display with WebLaunch.
While displaying a webpage my kindle frequently gets disconnected from the wifi network. This is not that bad because after a few seconds it reconnects automatically.
But every time a disconnect happens my kindle opens this popup with the list of wifi networks. I have to close this popup manually every time.

Is there any way to disable this popup?

Getting screwed by Amazon on my kindle fire.

Suddenly since the update the text-to-voice no longer works right. Instead of turning each page as the narration for that page is finished it now stays on the first page. Anyone else having this problem? In which case they are screwing everyone. Or just me because I returned an unordered audiobook and wrote them a bad review for forcing the professional narration on me and charging me for it. Amazon is bad about forcing things on you through a kindle. Like the amazon cloud, forcing you to use it by downloading your pictures to it without permission.

I gotta get me a different tablet.

Tutorial PSA for FW >= 5.10.x users

As we've just found out, because of a very old and stupid bug, a piece of code responsible for keeping the JB alive had a crippling bug that subtly broke stuff on FW 5.10.x.

In order to get things working again, you'll need to update to the very latest JB hotfix (either before or after the update), and then, just to be safe, as far as my own stuff is concerned, to use packages from the snapshots thread .

And that's it, crisis averted ;).

Hi!
I use my kindle for reading papers and documents for college, so i do a lot of highlighting, recently i discovered Kindle lets you export highlighted text in PDF format and send it to your email address. But this only works for books bought from the kindle store. I also know that highlights can be stored on "myclippings" but there's a lot of unnecesary info (like location, book, author), and other issues that makes the reading difficult.

Is there an OS for kindle that lets you export highlighted text in PDF/TXT/CSV/any other format for every type of book or document?

I have a couple things i am going to try to check.

1. See if these ship with the same fresh-out-of-the-box downgrade options tha tthe PW3 had, before that started bricking them

2. I downloaded the source, and saw some new filed names 'android' in the linux source, that reference ADB and Fastboot, I will be trying to trigger some factory mode using android flash cables.

Please use this thread to put anything you think I can try to do, and I will try to get to it.

The official name from amazons source code repository is Paperwhite 10th generation, bu I'm going to go ahead and start the flame war, and declare that the models will be named "PW4", and the 8 gb and 32gb variants will be "PW4.8" and "PW4.32".



Because it is waterproof, I am not going to attempt serial jailbreaking on this device, I will leave that to someone else.

Kindle DXG Duokan - valid download link

I bougth a DXG last week and I wish to install duokan on it, but is impossible to find a valid link. All of them are broken.

I only found this one from vdisk.cn, wich seems to be valid, but I was unable to download. Nothing happens.

Could someone send it to me? I am trully disappointed without duokan on my DX. :(

K4 KT4 NT how to recover lost wifi connection in script

@All,
for a while I was an anonymous reader benefiting out of several ideas here - thank you! Unfortunately I could not find an answer to last my problem. Hoping that you can help me now.

Problem Description
My K4NT: 4.1.3 runs my own small golang weather display (app). It runs just fine.
My router intentional drops wifi every night and restores it in the morning. I cannot find a way to recover the lost wifi connection on kindle after it is switched back on in the morning.

So my program cannot access internet and get a new forecast :(

"powerd" is on I just disabled screensaver:
lipc-set-prop -- com.lab126.powerd preventScreenSaver 1
framework shall be off but for now is on.

I found only one "dirty" way, which is:
1) keep framework up and running (I do not like this but there is no way to disable upper bar in KT4NT coming back again. No way to pillow off like in K5 and higher)
2) after detecting that the connection is lost by checking that "lipc-get-prop com.lab126.wifid cmState" != "CONNECTED" (it's actually PENDING)
3) simulate home button pressed by writing "send 102\n" to "/proc/keypad"
4) waiting few seconds and the framework magically refreshes the wifi connection

What I tried, but it does (always) work:
1) disabling and enabling wifi by:
lipc-set-prop -- com.lab126.cmd wirelessEnable 0
sleep 5
lipc-set-prop -- com.lab126.cmd wirelessEnable 1
sleep 5
2) trying the same with lipc-set-prop -- com.lab126.wifid enable

I've observed that sometimes the wifi connection recovers by itself and everything works fine without any action from my program.

Main question:
1) Is there any way, beside the above dirty trick with the "home button" to restore the wifi connection?

Low priority question for now :)
2) I'd like to put the kindle in suspend mode for the night - any working examples?
The rtcWakeup does not work as I thought

OK, I found the solution, sometimes you need a distance and leave the keyboard for a while, go outside and .... Kindle is a linux computer, do not look for a magic lipc-set-prop woodoo.
