Any hope of seeing a Jailbreak for recent FW versions?
There are many angles of attack in the kindle devices.
My bet is that there are plenty of bugs and glitches in the web browser, the PDF reader and many other exploits to be discovered in the software.
Is there a good chance of something being discovered?
What kind of exploits did the previous jailbreaks rely on?

I'm now proudly jailbroken. Just wanted to report my success, thank you all

Kindle DX Book list
Hello All.:)
I have a Kindle DX and a while back ......the book I was reading always sat at the top of the books I would download, even if I selected to read another book that book would sit on top of the previous book I was reading and then all the books I had downloaded.
Now when I close a book and read another book, the books I have open and I am reading dart to the back of ALL of the books list!
To find the open book again means I have to scroll all the way to the back of the Kindles book list (20 pages??):(
Would anybody know why this might of changed?

Kindle PW, Application Error, The selected application could not be started
my kindle paperwhite didnot launch koreader of selecting .pdf, .epub books, and give error as given below.
"Application Error, The selected application could not be started, Please try again."
OBSERVATIONS
After much of research i find out following observations.
1. Set was off due to battery low, after recharging it come alive.
2. when i open folder extensions/KUAL.cfg file i find out this
"# KUAL.cfg - created on Fri Nov 1 00:59:35 UTC 2013"
3. I tried to register set but it didnot registered on amazon website.
4. From menu, "Sync and Check for Items" was grayed out, so we cannot synchronize our device date etc.
4. When i tried my kindle DXG, also off due to battery low, recharge, its KUAL did not launched.
5. When i check date, it what 1970.
CONCLUSION
It seems due to date issue some how KUAL fail to integrate file with koreader, or itself.
SOLUTION
If some how we update DATE it might solve this error.
FINAL WORDS
But did not find a way to update Date in Kindle Devices .
CAN ANYONE HELP TO FIND WAY OUT.

K2 Reginfo won't work on 3.2.1 modified K2i
I have recently bought a K2i that I just modified to run the 3.2.1 firmware. Since I've never been able to register a K2 that's been modified this way, (I am told it's a inherent flaw to this modified firmware,) I have tried repeatedly to use the reginfo hack in order to try and enable the Kindle to create collections. Every time I try it, the hack fails and I think it shows the error 007. I am hoping that there is a solution to my problem. I would appreciate someone's' help with this matter.

Old jailbroken KT - how to reset to factory?
Hi wizards,
I have a very old Kindle Touch that I did some software jailbreak on and Screensaver hack.
I don't remember anymore what I did.
It still works fine but now I'd like to reset to factory and have the latest OS on it.
Is there any simple way that I have missed? Should I use Kubrick?
I don't know how to program, so my technical capabilities are limited.
Or do I have to investigate and find out what exactly I did?
Thanks in advance!

K5 Having trouble with package signing for custom Kindlet on K5 Touch
Hi, I'm new to Kindle hacking and have been trying to get a Hello World kindlet running on my K5 touch for the last while. Here's some info about my Kindle:
Device: Kindle Touch WiFi
Firmware Version: Kindle 5.1.2 (1679530004)
JBPatch: 4.0.0
I've been roughly following this and this (outdated) and combining that with info from my friend and other things I've come across on this site. I copied Kindlet-2.1.jar off my Kindle, which slightly differs from the first tutorial I linked and significantly differs from the second. I copied the com directory from the root of the jar into my project folder.
Here's my code and directory setup:
developer.keystore: downloaded from here, the latest one (2012-11-06)
kindlet/Main.java:
test.manifest:
build.sh:
In order to build my app, I run my build.sh script, which produces app.azw2. Then, I put it on my Kindle via usb in the documents directory. However, when I try to open the kindlet, I get "This item is not signed by an authorized developer. Please contact the developer." I don't get this error when opening either JBPatch or KUAL, both of which installed fine.
Here's the output of showlog -f while opening the application (after ;debugOn):
Inside that monster of an error log I saw something about an exception being thrown inside untrusted code, so my app code might be wrong (it was kind of patched together and I don't know if I can use swing or what) but there's also a signing issue I think because it's saying the code is untrusted.
Things I've tried:
- Screaming into the void
- Building the JAR using Eclipse (was doing this initially until I made the build script)
- Signing my own developer keys per the second guide I linked above. This was strange because I made new keys and replaced the developer.keystore file on my Kindle at the right location, restarted, and was still unable to launch my app but also was able to launch JBPatch and KUAL. I am not really sure why that is the case but I'm pretty sure I installed it right; I mounted the root directory rw, copied the developer.keystore from my computer into the right location (/var/local/java/keystore/developer.keystore)
- Commenting out the javax.swing import line and the code that draws the textarea + reducing error reporting level. This showlog -f is much more manageable and has some useful information I think:
It looks like this is the crux of the problem:
java.security.NoSuchAlgorithmException: 1.2.840.113549.1.1.11 Signature not available
I don't really know what it wants me to do, though.
It might also be worth noting that I'm running javac 1.8.0_172 (I think the OpenJDK version).
Any advice or pointers in the right direction would be much appreciated! Thanks so much!

Removing "old" KUAL, any news
Hi all,
I apologize - expecially to Knc1 - but I can't find the thread any more, despite I had set a subscription on it...
A few months ago, with a firmware update, the booklet version of KUAL became invalid.
No problem as the "other" version was (and is) still perfectly working, it was just a matter of installing it.
The only problem was that, for some reason I can't remember but you surely know, it was not possible to remove the old KUAL from the book list on PW3 menu, for some reason it lasted on Kindle's internal db and wouldn't go away.
I remember that Knc1 was working on a fix for this and he should have warned us when/if he was able to work it out.
I would like to know if a solution has eventually been found and a link to that, if possible. I tried but there are so many threads about KUAL that I can't identify the right one.
Thanks!

PW3 Updating PW3 firmware to 5.9.5.1 - correct procedure?
I would like to update the firmware on my jailbroken PW3 from 5.9.4 (3278740046) to 5.9.5.1. Every time I have updated the firmware previously, I have had a right old time trying to get the screensavers hack working again. Should the procedure simply be as follows:
- install fw update
- install mrpi
- run the command ';log mrpi' in the search bar
- copy over Update_KUALBooklet_v*_install.bin to get KUAL back
- reinstall Python & the screensavers package by downloading the latest snapshots and copying than to the Packages folder
Thanks

KV Recovering KUAL after 5.9.5.1 upgrade? ";log mrpi" has no effect
Sorry about having to create a new thread but I've not found anything that appears to match what I'm seeing...
TL;DR - Tried to switch to KUAL Booklet after update but neither ";log mrpi" nor ";un" work - ";711" does. Moving /usbnet/DISABLED_auto -> /usbnet/auto made no difference...
I've a KV (B013 09 - UK Wifi) which is now running f/w 5.9.5.1. I added the jailbreak some time ago, and it's been through a few firmware updates, which just means redoing the packages. It last updated some time ago, but I only really use the jailbreak/KUAL to update the categories and I'd not added any books via for a while, so only recently tried to run KUAL. I got "Application Error: The selected application could not be started", so headed here.
My searches suggested re-installing the mrinstaller, which I've done by unpacking the kual-mrinstaller-1.7.N-r14996 archive to the Kindle via the usb mount on my Mac, then added the Update KUALBooklet binary to mrpackages, then tried to trigger things via ";log mrpi" but the latter has no effect.
I've also in the past had usb-networking working, but can't trigger it now, so I'm wondering if I'm missing something, has the update removed whatever the ";log mrpi" should be doing or maybe my original jailbreak was an old one and the ";log mrpi" functionality was added subsequently (just guessing).
Anyway, any thoughts/pointers or suggestions for things to try? It would be nice to have the option to manage Collections, but it's not worth my trying to downgrade the firmware nor taking the device apart to try to add a serial line!

PW3 Unbrick a Kindle PW3 7th Generation
Hi guys,
This is my first post, and it's because one day after charging my discharged Kindle PW3 7th generation it started with an infinity loop reboot like this video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tPz7NNSPYi8
Well, I start searching in Internet about the problem and after trying Amazon Support without result, I found the next video with steps for flashing the device:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xBquDhGZXoU
After a lot of work, I got access to the debug mode from the device, but I did the same mistake as MADMAXXX from this old post (https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=269099) choosing the "Erase All" command in the recovery menu :smack: .
The situation is the next, I'm capable to access to the fastboot mode (uboot > bist fastboot) and transfer the files uImage and the rootfs.img (obtained from the last update file from Amazon with kindletool) to the device, but it doesn's work, the device can't load the recovery menu because I think the diags images doesn't exist.
The question is, exist a solution for the problem or my best option is buy a new device?
Regards.
PD: Sorry about my bad English.

KOReader on KOA2: Possible yet?
My apologies if this should be in the KOReader forum!
I have installed KOReader on my KOA2. It seems to be correctly installed, but when I tap "KUAL", then "KOReader", then "Start the filemanager", the display blinks but that's it.
How did I install everything?
Following these instructions, I installed the MR package installer on my KOA2. Then, I added coplate's patched version of the Update_KUALBooklet_v*_install.bin file to the mrpackages folder.
I ran ;log mrpi and everything seemed to install as expected.
I downloaded the latest KOReader nightly. (I also tried the newest stable version, with the same results.) I see KOReader as a menu item in KUAL, so I assume it is installed correctly.
I tap "start the filemanager", as I said previously, and just get one blink on the display.
Did I miss any crucial steps? Will KOReader even run yet on the KOA2? If anyone has succeeded in this, I'd appreciate your help.

Does firmware update 5.9.6 survive jailbreak?
I'm not brave enough to try.

PW3 Serial debrick stuck on tree
Hi forum members,
while I was in the US, my jailbroken german PW3 tried to make an OTA update. After the update it got stuck at the "boy under the tree" screen. I had this problem before and could recover the device by connecting to the serial port, launching the recovery menu and basically following this post. So i tried to do the same again, but simply nothing happens when I select "u" in the recovery menu (all the other steps work). I'd be very thankful if anyone could take the time to give me a hint on how to solve the problem!

Tutorial Pinyin implementation
I just noticed that when enabled in the language learning options:
Attachment 164394
Books in chinese language (such as the Kindle User's Guide Chinese Edition in these screenshots) will (unsurprisingly) display pinyin above chinese characters:
Attachment 164393
And have an active pinyin level menu:
Attachment 164392
The feature doesn't seem to be implemented in a way similar to wordwise. I couldn't find an equivalent of the mnt_us/system/kll/kll.en.en.klld wordwise data base with accompanying mnt_us/bookASIN.sdr/LanguageLayer.en.ASIN.kll in the sdr directory for the book.
By curiosity, has anybody researched how/where pinyin is implemented?
