missing magazine covers in FSF

I am trying to help FSF track down a problem with the kindle magazine covers on my KT2. Some of their issues appear to be missing what our screen saver pulls from the magazine for the cover, which also impacts the kindle's directory display in cover mode. Our screen saver shows something similar to the magazine masthead instead of the cover for these issues. The cover mode directory display shows the magazine name and date in a white box over a generic screen saver background.

Can someone give me a pointer to what the hack is looking for, which I assume is the same thing the firmware is for its cover mode display? The FSF people tell me they are seeing the cover in color, so I assume they are looking on a fire as opposed to a paper white display.

I should also note that I DO see the cover from within the magazine, so it might be a missing link of some sort in the file as opposed to an outright missing image.

I should also note that I have issues that DO display properly, so if someone can give me a way to test this I can run it against both working and failing issues.

how i can add a font with emojis compatibility on the kindle? i think the font package is outdated (i have 5.9.x)

I use koreader and I use epub and pdfs and it's nice. But then I thought: Does amazon know which book pdfs and epubs I'm reading? You never know how one got them. Can Amazon be stopped at sniffing around?

Send to Kindle

Not sure if this is the right place, but I wanted to know if anyone knows what the limit to "send to Kindle" docs is.

I routinely buy books from Amazon, and other places, but since I tend to read fiction series I have to side-load them after editing the title to show the series before the title (Calibre). I even created a new account that only deals with those books so the ones I purchase don't mix in with the ones I side-loaded. I use the collections to keep track and like Whispersync to keep track of my place. Anyway, I finally got hip to the send to kindle feature and have been using it ...via the desktop app and not the email app.

After reading the terms and conditions, and ignoring all of them except the part that Amazon states that they may limit the number of books sent.

Does anyone know what that number is (roughly) or what conditions will trip Amazon to give my library particular notice?

I have three Paperwhite 3's, and was wondering what the benefits of jailbreaking them are. Also, will it prevent me from being able to order books from Amazon directly from my Kindle?

As of now, the only reason I know of that would benefit my jailbreaking my Kindles would be to set up a better collection system.

Hi all.

First of all I want to thank all the useful contributors for their work so far. However, I still have been unable to get (the relatively old) programs to work.

I'm using a Kindle 4 and am working from Mac OSX Yosemite 10.10.5.

I'm basically following this link: https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/v...ic.php?t=62139

What I've done so far:

* Jailbroke my kindle

* Installed KUAL

* Installed USBnetwork (although I am unsure how to use it)

* Installed KindleVCN viewer

Everything worked fine so far up to this point, but when I try to continue the steps I get the following error

It seems like the kindle doesn't get recognized? I found this little CLI command to show my USB devices and I don't see the kindle anywhere.

USBNetwork over wifi root default password

Hello,

I have a KT3 that for some reason isn't getting recognized by USB (Neither USBMS, nor USBNET)

I'm trying to access it via WIFI, but the kindle is requesting for a password for the root account

I've read somewhere here that's normal. Any ideas how I can I set this password or if there's a default password ?

Kindle Touch (d01200) touchscreen unresponsive

Hello,

I have Kindle Touch, d01200 WIFI version, from a friend.
He didn't use it for a while (coupe of months) and when he turn it on, it won't react to touch. I charge it 24h and the led turn green, but the touch wont work.
Tried to hold power button 40sec and it restarts, can see picture of a boy and the tree with progress bar (so the screen isn't broken), but when it loads to homescreen I can't select anything. After a while screensaver turn on.

Because can't go to menu and reset it, I found somewhere that it can be done with putting file with name DO_FACTORY_RESTORE in to the root of the Kindle folder with PC. I done that and it resets itself, reboot and menu to select language appear, but again, touch not respond and I can't select anything.
After 10 minutes or so, the screensaver turn on.

I read that this model don't have classic touchscreen but some kind of IR sensors around the screen, and when they become dirty, they could stop working. So, I cleaned it and cleaned it but without success.
I tried to open it and re-seat the flat cable, but again, nothing.
Any suggestion what else to try?

I read somewhere on this forum that, on some models, you can attach mouse with OTG cable, is that possible with this model so I maybe can use it that way?
ANY suggestion is very appreciated!

turning on wifi and automatic update of kindle

It has been almost two since I have jailbreaked my kindle.since then I haven't dare to turn wifi on and connect to the internet with my Kindle because of automatic update of the software and fear of losing the jailbreak. is there a way to connect to the internet without losing the jailbreak and stopping the device from updating itself?

KUAL problem on 5.9.4 - KOA ver. 1

I have a KOA ver.1 and upgraded it to 5.9.4, then reinstalled KUAL but it gave me blank screen, after several times of uninstall/reinstall I made a mistake: I deleted the KUAL booklet，then tried to install KUAL again, but the booklet never appears.

this artical gives a solution to the KUAL blank screen issue, I tried to run "runme.sh" before and after uninstall/reinstall KUAL but still the booklet is nowhere to be found.

I tried with the latest version of MRPI and KUAL on this thread:

Hi,

I am currently trying to write my own kindlet for my kindle 3GB.
Using this post's hello world code I am struggling to get anything running:

The main issue I am having after running the .azw2 file is "The title is not signed by a registered developer"

I have signed with dn,di,dk with the following line:
jarsigner -keystore developer.keystore -storepass password Test.azw2 dktest

And also tried with Test.jar with no avail.
I have tried using the developer.keystore from this forum and also tried just using the mkk install file.

I am at a loss of what else to try, have you guys got any suggestions?

PW3 Need USB breakout board or...

Hello all,

I've been enjoying my PW3, but wanted to jailbreak it - I am a computer geek wanabe, and wanted to do some networking, maybe SSH, and of course get some of the other nice features of a JB'ed Kindle.

The problem is that my software is quite new, so there are no presently any ways to downgrade it so a JB would work. The only way that I can see is do the surgery on my PW3, and directly connect my PW3 to a PC via a USB breakout board. Unfortunately, the one recommended is sold at a Amazon. I have looked for one that will work - the most important feature being a 1.8 v limit passed to my PW3 from a 5 v USB interface. This I have not been able (yet) to locate.

So I am open to any option:
1. Find an alternative breakout board that meets the 1.8v requirement.
2. Purchase someone else's breakout board (seed me a PM).
3. Alternative way to JB my PW3?

PW2 Need help with writing image via Fastboot - "FAILED (remote: Invalid partition)" prob

Hi, I've got a bricked PW2.
I managed to connect it via serial port (Mac + Ft232R) and get it into Fastboot mode.

I'm using the following images: https://ixtab.tk/kindle-touch-images/PW2/

So far, I have successfully flashed only the diags_kernel.img. Here are the logs a) from the terminal:

b) from the serial monitor (using CoolTerm for Mac):

I've tried the images from PW section (non-PW2) - same story, only the Diags Kernel goes through.

I tend to think the memory of my device is corrupted or something. I have quite basic knowledge of Linux-based systems and would appreciate any help.
Kindly let me know if you have any ideas - I'll try them out and will revert with my findings.

kt3 basic, poor brick without diags, u-boot only, how to send backup files?

please i need help, in case that i cannot solve more than three full days in warm spring Arambol village, near my laptop with blinking uart module. . . :computer:

i have brick kt3 basic (all - new ereader 2016) 5.9.4 before brick.
it was done with wrong diafs image send to fasboot, when i stuck in diags.
i have full backup made by tools backup, of same 5.94 j.b. (from another kindle)
i can't boot to fastboot, or even bist, due kernel error, all i have - uboot with mmc commands.

please, someone told me about sending and writing backup files through u-boot.
i eat a tons of mobileread and other u-boot similar forums :bookworm:
no idea

is it possible to send and write backup files through u-boot, or it is throw-away-pad only?
i still in amazon guarantee year, but kindle seems like photoframe with cool 2 color blinker.

Are there any guides for taking apart the 8th generation Kindle (Not the Oasis).

I can't find any guides that help in doing this. I want to take apart my reader but I also don't want to destroy it.
