Hey guys

What is the best approach to be able to send turn page command to the kindle 4NT? The device is not jailbroken. On firmware 4.1.3.

PW3 Is the serial port jailbreak worthwhile now?

I have experience with Xbox RGH before so soldering the wires and doing the JB shouldn't be a problem for me. But I'd like to know if is it worthwhile to do it now or I should wait for the proper jailbreak release?

Where does Kindle store WiFi logins?

Does anybody know where the Kindle stores its past Wifi logins? I want to clear the login info so that I don't accidentally take it off the airplane mode and let it get updated.

I have a PW3 with firmware 5.6.5, jailbreaked. I checked the usual places where Linux stores its Wifi networks (/var/NetworkManager) but couldn't locate it.

What exactly does a jailbreak do?

K3 Kindle K3 upgrade and How to change screen flash frequency in turning page

Hi All,

My Kindle model: Kindle k3g.
Firmware version v3.3
Jailbreak v0.11.N

I could not tolerate my Kindle K3g continuously restarting and run out of power in several days when WIFI is on. The cause is that Amazon will automatically push the update to my kindle

I was expecting to upgrade the firmware version from 3.3 to 3.4 after upgrade JB, SS and USBNet to the latest version (B v0.13.N, SS v0.47.N, Python 0.14.N, Fonts v5.16.N, USBNet v0.57.N ), but the firmware upgrade failed.

After that, the screen flashes every time when turning page which is really annoying.I did initial jailbreak on my kindle K3g 5 years ago, I remember there was a parameter that we can change on a jailbreaked Kindle K3 to prevent screen flash every time when turning a page, but I cannot recall this parameter and also failed to get it by googling.

Appreciate someone can answer any of the questions:help::help:

What the parameter is?
where the configuration file is located?

If this is a debug parameter, how to apply the change?

Does anyone successfully upgrade kindle k3g firmware from v3.3 -> 3.4 -> 3.42 without a factory reset without JB uninstalled?

Timed Lock
v0.1a (2015-12-22)

Security is not an all-or-nothing situation. But for your Kindle, the only "physical" security you can add is a user passcode that has to be entered when you wake your Kindle up from screensaver. The choices are thus no security, or entering your passcode every single time. The latter can become annoying very fast, e.g. if you just turned your Kindle off (or closed the magic cover) a second ago to talk to or interact with some people (think waiting room, train, plane, etc).

This extension tries to find a middle-ground by allowing you more fine-tuned control over your Kindle's passcode requirement. It basically supports two features:
  1. Only require passcode when device was off for a certain duration.
  2. Disable/enable passcode based on time of day, e.g. no passcode required at night when you are home, only during the day when you are out and about.

Security is a tricky situation. Whether you use either of these two features (or both) and what settings you put in, depends entirely on your specific situation and your compromises. Think clearly about it and remember that you use this extension on your own risk.

Please refer to the readme.txt inside the zip file for details on how to install and use this extension, also for important security reminders.

Kindle DXG - firmware 3.3 resolution?

I have updated my Kindle DX graphite to firmware 3.1 and after that to 3.3.
I know that is kind of late now, but... how do I know if I reduced or not the actual displayed resolution?
DXG has 824 × 1200 pixels, but the Kindle 3 (Keyboard) has only 600 × 800 pixels (I think).

Hello,
iam new in this Forum and need help by unbrick a PW3 (2015).

I got a PW3 (G090 G1) and tryed to Jailbreak it. I failed :(

I used the Dummies Tutorial (Serial Port) and get a Rapair Screen after erasing the root password. Unfortunatly i erase the MMC while playing around get it back to life.

I read about the fastboot and flashing the kernel, system and diags. So i get the Kindle in the fastboot mode and install the driver on my Windows PC. Fastboot is working and i also can read the serial nr over fastboot.

So far so good, but i cant get the images out of the update_kindle_5.6.1.1.bin.
(5.6.1.1 ist the SW version that was installed on the PW3)
I used the kindletool to extract the .bin but failed at unpack the fwo_rootfs.img to create the images for flasing.

Can someone help me creating the images by a step by step tut or a link where i can get this images?

Sorry for my bad english.

Regards Max

K5 5th Gen PW running 5.6.1.1 jailbreak?

$

I'm new here but I really appreciate the help and advice from the more technically proficient than me here. In the process of clearing off an old kindle paperwhite (serial number Serial Number B024 xxxx) I stupidly re-registered it and it updated the firmware to 5.6.1.1 which is, apparently, the most recent update available for this kindle (according to the Amazon page). I was hoping to jailbreak it to put software that allows me to read .pdfs more easily.

I see posts about how to jailbreak that cover firmware up to 5.4.4.2 and one coming sometime in the future for 5.6.5 but it looks like 5.6.1 is in a gap. If updating to 5.6.5 is impossible for my PW1 and the firmware is already updated past 5.4.4.2 am I screwed? Will it be impossible to jailbreak it without opening the back and soldering? Is this hopeless? :help:

Thanks in advance for any help.

KT2 Neewbee struggling

Hi everyone !

I've been offered a Kindle 7th Gen, nicknamed KT2 here from what I gathered, for Xmas.
I've just started looking around and I was hoping to jailbreak it.
The main goals I want to acheive is getting rid of the ads and being able to feed it files straight from my computer (.pdfs, epubs ..).
Does that sound doable at all ?

I've been reading this page :
http://wiki.mobileread.com/wiki/KT2_Index
But I'm stuck with the instruction "cd to /mnt/us then run jb.sh."

If anyone had a moment to guide me, that'd be amazing.

K5 Kindle Touch-open specific image by command line

$

Hello,
I intend to control opening images stored on kindle touch (images folder) by one script.

With that need, i try to understand Kindle command to open specific images instead of manual action (tap on images). I see that running usr/bin/imageviewer.sh behaves like opening Images folder, then i have to tap on image to open it

Do you have any advice to do this or any similar packages to perform to open specific images? Appreciate for your help

P/S: i see kindle always returns following event when i touch/tap on images after running command udevadm monitor --property. Honestly, i do not understand and if we can utilize these information in making script to open specific image?

Old Paperwhite question from someone afraid of change

$

Hi forum.

I have a gen 1 paperwhite which still has a clear enough screen and long enough battery life for me not to need to update to a newer model.

Long ago, I installed a jailbreak and the screensaver mod, and a couple other things largely relating to PDF viewers, and kual 2.3.1.

Oh, and the Back Door Lock (still showing Locked status)

My firmware still reads 5.3.6 as it did the day i ran the BDL.

I like my screensavers. I hate the new 'features' of the later firmwares that have really annoyed my gf (we got our kindles at the same time, but she's never modified hers), and i don't trust Amazon.

Can they bypass the old-ass BDL from way back then? Force a silent update without my consent?

If yes, I'll do whatever needs done to resecure my kindle, but if no action required, well, I like things the way they are.

Revert to native collections interface

I installed Collections Manager 2.7.7 on my Kindle PW2 5.4.5 and ever since I'm unable to use the Kindle's native interface to manage collections (e.g., adding an item to a collection). It becomes stuck and I have to reboot the Kindle. How can I use the native interface again?
Thanks.

K5 Demo PW-1 Jailbreak

$

Please do not ask **why** someone would want to Jailbreak a Demo PW-1 -
but here is how to do it:

Note: this PW-1 is still running the original, version 5.2.0 (demo) firmware, so having these search bar codes listed as "KT2" is a listing error.

Ref:
http://wiki.mobileread.com/wiki/KT2_Index#Demo_mode
http://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=225030 (for the 5.0 ... 5.4 JB)

All ';' commands are entered in the search bar of the HOME screen.

  • ;exit_demo
Stops that irritating screen ad flashing.
  • ;uzb
Re-enable USB export on connection of cable to PC.
  • Connect Kindle to PC with USB cable
  • Follow the README file directions to side-load the JB files to the Kindle.
  • "safely remove" (eject) the Kindle
  • Remove USB cable
  • ;dsts
    Brings up the system 'settings'.
  • Tap the menu icon
  • Tap "Update Kindle"
  • Confirm you want to update
  • Wait for the ***JailBreak*** notice to appear at bottom of screen.
  • Done

Problem installing Kindle ScreenSavers Hack

$

Hi everyone,

I have a problem installing the screensaver hack on a PW2. I'm on 5.4.2.1 with KUAL installed.

I followed the install instruction but on the after the reboot step, I still get the default screensavers.

I tryed reinstalling the lastest jailbreak (it shoed the jailbrek message), rebooting and reinstalling the lastest KUAL, but with no effect.

I figgured out that I had a "back door lock" enabled in kual (I jailbreaked it many month ago and don't remember exactly what i had done), i disabled it but with no effect. I tryed the installation via the "update your kindle" and via MRPI but, also, with no effect.

I'm running out of ideas and i would have really liked to be able to change my screensavers.

Fire (5th gen) ignored by Calibre

$

I was wondering why my brand spanking new 7" Fire (5th generation) was being ignored by Calibre on Win 8.1. Following the FAQ, I opened Preferences / Ignored Devices and there it was. I did not Calibre to ignore the device, and unchecking the box did nothing. In fact, I immediately reopened Preferences only to find that it was checked as a device to be ignored.

One of the primary reasons I bought this Kindle, other than the fact that my earlier 7" Fire HDX was stolen, was to add books to it from my private collection to it. Is this a known problem?
