Just checking in as it's been some time since I've heard anything. I have a Jailbroken KOA2 (thank you for all the help doing it months ago) and wanted to see if there was anyone who has been able to get the screensaver hack working? Apologies if i'm behind. Thanks for any information.

K3 Help! Kindle 3 Power Switch is dead

$

Please your help. The power switch in my Kindle Keyboard is damaged and I don´t have a way of waking the device up. Is there a keyboard shortcut or key combination that has the same effect than sliding the power switch?

This device has the latest firmware so I don´t think I can root it. If I reset it by disconnecting the battery, it boots and I can use it but when it goes back to sleep I don´t have a way of waking it.

I can also try a hardware hack; I have changed the screen of this device twice but the power switch is really small and I don´t think I can replace it.
:help:
Any help is highly appreciated.

PW2 Does jailbreak survive firmware 5.11.1.1

My PW2 that's jailbroke has version 5.10.2 and I leave it in Airplane mode most of the time but did sync a week ago and back to airplane mode. Now it's been popping up about an upgrade, I'm assuming it's 5.11.1.1 but it could be 5.10.3 as I didn't install that.

Does a jailbroke Kindle survive upgrading to 5.11.1.1?

If it doesn't can I delete "update.bin.tmp.partial" to stop it from asking about the update?

PW3 PW3,fw 5.10.3 serial jailbreaking help

Hello everyone
I have a pw3 32 fw5.10.3. And according to what I have read https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=267541,I have reached the stage of installing the "main-htmlviewer.tar.gz" , but the latest version of the jailbreak plug-in obviously cannot be installed according to the method in the previous post. How to install the jailbreak plug-in, what are the specific steps, and who can help me?

Kindle DX browser choked

I have a Kindle DXG. It has been updated and is registered with Amazon. I can still buy books over 3G, but I can no longer connect to sites I used for years while I was in the mountains without the internet. I used to check the weather and Gmail with ease. Now I get that "Basic Web is unable to make a secure connection at this time message except for Shop in Amazon store! I have spent a couple of extended sessions with Kindle customer support, and they insist it is because Amazon has not updated the software for DX. Really? Yet I have no trouble using the browser to visit Amazon. I have a Windows 98 computer that still connects to the internet! Newer Kindles are sold with restricted browsers, but my Kindle Keyboard connects over the same Telus 3G as the DX, and it goes to simple sites with the Basic Browser. I don't think anything has been done to basic 3G internet that would require me to have some mysterious Amazon update that has not been made. I'm just saying, that sounds like BS to me!

Tools Kindle E-Ink Screen Fix

Hi guys! Today I've developed a tool to fix E-Ink Kindle Screens, it's into a book format, so here you go :bookworm::

 NO JAILBREAK NEEDED!!!

Instructions: Open this book, go to page settings and enable page refreshing, after, go back to the first black page and start turning the pages once per second 256 times.

What it may fix: E-ink ghosting, lines and errors in books and/or the system.

This program/book is free to use, fully created by me using Paint, Windows Explorer, Mangle, Kindle Comic Converter (KCC) and Calibre.

I also highly recommend Kithan's web version, but the problem of his version is because of the browser limitations, you cannot remove the menu, so instead of fixing a ghosting, you can create a new one. In my version it does not happen, but the user has to turn the black and white color pages manually.

PW3 jb 5.10.3

My thread title is also the question. It is not possible, so it seems, to jb a Kindle with 5.10.3. I also cannot downgrade this. Some website are telling it works with moving the right bin in the root folder and make use of the Kindle update function. But it doesn't work. I guess, the Firmware checks if it < or > than the version I want to install. Too bad.

Can I make it stop sending data around? Whispersync is turned off in the amazon account, but is it really, really off? I also dis-conncected from my account and also disconnected from WLAN. The latter is pre-configured and I need to ask for getting temporarily room for an update. And I don't want to do that (anymore). Therefore it's turned off. But, does it still send data, somehow? (I don't know if it's possible, I guess not, but cannot do harm if I ask)

Let's say i plan to give my Kindle away. Does it have all my books (I read) logged and as soon as it connects to the internet again, will send it to its destination? Don't want to have that feature. Nor do I want others to see the books I read.

Any way to jailbreak PW2 on 5.11.1.1, model dp75sdi?

PW3 Kindle PW3 5.9.7/5.11.1.1

Hi there folks!

I've already tried searching for an answer to this but I haven't been able to find a definitive one, so I apologize in advance if this is a duplicate post.

I've just purchased a Kindle Paperwhite 3, with firmware version 5.9.7. From what I understand, it's not possible to software mod it on this version, so I'll go for the serial port hardware mod.

My 2 questions are:
1) If I hardware mod the PW3 on this version and then update to 5.11.1.1, will it keep the mod?

2)If not, can I hardware mod the PW3 after updating it to 5.11.1.1? In other words, is it possible to hardware mod the PW3 on 5.11.1.1?

Hello guys,

today I got an software update (which is strange because I thought that I have blocked them). And now I can't launch KUAL anymore.

I already tried this script that worked for me often before, when KUAL does not wanted to launch with an error msg:
Quote:

#!/bin/sh
# mount system
mntroot rw
# remove bad kualbooklet jar
rm "/opt/amazon/ebook/booklet/KUALBooklet.jar"
# install my test jar
cp "/mnt/us/KUALBooklet.jar" "/opt/amazon/ebook/booklet/KUALBooklet.jar"
mntroot ro
After launching this script I do not get an error anymore. Just a Whitescreen.

How to backup plugins and tools for update? Everytime I update I need to write down the list of installed plugins and tools on a piece of paper then look online to reDL each of them and reinstall after update.

Hello everyone!
I'm noob here. :)
I've just ordered the all-new Kindle 10th generation 2019 basic, not the Paperwhite, and I'm wondering if it's jailbreakable?

:thanks:

What Is This?:

This aims to be an up-to-date version of @geekmaster's original "JailBreak Index" thread. It will recap what you can and cannot do with your device, and how to proceed, in a step by step process.

Identification.

First, you need to identify your device. Just follow the instructions on this wiki page.

Device Generation Concerns.

The main focus of this document will be all current devices with a touchscreen, running FW 5.x.
If you're using an older device see this historical thread, with a special addition if you're using a K4.

The Right Tools For The Job.

You'll soon realize that most of my stuff, despite being spread over a few dedicated threads, will actually redirect you to my Snapshots thread to actually download the files. I'd suggest keeping it open in a separate tab, or you might start to get dizzy with the amount of cross-references ;).
This allows me to centralize and update everything in one step.
Most of the files are shipped as xz compressed tarballs (.tar.xz). You'll need a decent unarchiver to handle those. We generally recommend 7-zip. If your unarchiver only leaves you with a simple tarball (.tar), you'll have to unpack that, too, to get to the goods.

JailBreak.

On current devices, the process involves installing a *factory* version of the FW. You are *not* able to downgrade a Kindle, which means you will have to be running a FW version <= to the factory image we have on hand.
If you're not, you're out of luck, at least not without hardware modifications, which we only know how to handle on *some* specific models (generally, older/simpler ones).

Which means making sure you won't get force-fed an unwanted OTA update is *very* important. Switch to airplane mode ASAP, and create a *folder* named update.bin.tmp.partial at the top level of the visible USB storage.

As of right now, the list of supported devices is as follows:
  • PW2: 5.4.3.2 (MD5: 3cbac0b4821cec03432b9ed382744f41)
  • KT2: 5.6.0 (MD5: d85a86f5c75b4b9d43648f3b6afd2e84)
  • KV: 5.5.0 (MD5: f7c8905ea993fef902be82b70a98542a)
  • PW3: 5.9.6.1 (MD5: a5460e698a531c7770ba2b1ac31667b0)
  • KOA: 5.7.4 (MD5: 8f1e7c9124a2b12e643b15447d80feae)
  • KT3: 5.8.0 (MD5: 3f1a5294e1bca8c4fa7ca2762c5b4505)
  • KOA2: 5.9.0.6 (MD5: 18624db8c1838ec2b5b8bfb3406ac041)
  • PW4: 5.10.1.3 (MD5: 538d939c2cb4f05c7952d33d5348f010)
  • KT4: 5.11.0 (MD5: fd3e7ed8ebea59432163a5e713cd90c5)

Be *very* careful to pick the right file for your device, because failing to do that *will* result in a brick.

You should be able to find links to those images at the bottom of this WiKi page, or, barring that, via Google (in which case, double-check the md5 sum of the files).

Once you've got your hands on an image that fits your device, check out this thread for detailed instructions, and come back here once that's done ;).

For older devices running FW <= 5.4.4.2, see this historical thread.

TL;DR: Identify your device, install the appropriate factory image like any other FW update.

Making sure your JB survives updates.

It's as simple as installing the JB Hotfix.
This will also take care of a few other necessary bits and bobs for the following steps.

TL;DR: This one should be installed via the "Update Your Kindle" menu, after dropping the .bin file at the top level of the visible USB storage.

Installing custom packages.

You can now forget about the "Update Your Kindle" menu, everything will have to go through the MobileRead Package Installer.

You might be wondering why this is listed first, while it appears to depend on another tool: KUAL. That's a bit of a catch-22 that we'll take care of shortly; for now, install MRPI as if you actually had KUAL installed ;).

TL;DR: This is as simple as extracting the package at the top level of the visible USB storage.

KUAL.

This is a GUI frontend that many custom tools will rely on, as such, we consider it a mandatory dependency.

As it's designed to run across the *full* range of Kindle devices, there are four different variants of it available.
If you're running FW >= 5.8, you'll need the "Booklet (coplate)" variant.
If you're running FW < 5.8, you can use the "Booklet" variant, or the "KDK-2" variant. Prefer the Booklet variant.
On older FW < 5.x devices, you'll have to use the "KDK-1" variant.

While the KDK variants were simple files you just sideloaded like any other book, the Booklet variants are proper packages, which is why MRPI had to come first ;).

TL;DR: Booklet variants should be installed via MRPI: drop the .bin in the mrpackages directory, located in the top level of the visible USB storage (if you don't see it, you bungled the MRPI install in the previous step), then run MRPI by entering ;log mrpi in the Homescreen's searchbar, then wait for MRPI to proceed. If nothing happens, you bungled something along the way.

Enjoy!.

You should now be ready to play with a lot of what's available on MR! A couple things to remember, though: As there's been a long history of various Kindle models and FW, some things may only target and/or behave properly on some specific models and/or FW versions. The documentation may not be any help in making you aware of that fact, especially for older stuff (the original author may be inactive, and even if he isn't, making sure stuff works everywhere and/or document it is a *lot* of work). Feel free to ask in the relevant thread, there's a good chance someone will tell you if it has a chance of working, or not ;).

As a rule, everything in my Snapshots thread should be sane & safe to use: it will either gracefully refuse to install on unsupported devices, or, barring that, gracefully refuse to *run* on unsupported devices.

Remember that MRPI supports installing *multiple* packages at once, and will attempt to install stuff in the right order if it matters (i.e., by installing Python first, for instance, as it's generally used by a few things, either as a hard dependency, or an optional one).
